The Mississauga Model Flying Club ( MMFC ) was formed in 1968 by a small group of about a dozen local model airplane enthusiasts. Interests in those days were mostly in Free Flight, U/Control, and Indoor models. In 1974, four club members introduced to the club to Radio Control flying. Today, the main interest is R/C. However we still have a few members flying U/C and Indoor as well as gliders, electrics and a couple of jets. We are a chartered club with the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada (MAAC). Our main interest in R/C is in Sport, Sport Scale, and "Sunday flying". We also have a few helicopter pilots and one or two jet pilots. Although we do not have any members at this time flying in formal competition "on the circuit" we do hold our own Club Fun Fly competitions which we also turn into our family barbeque days. Our membership current stands at 55 members with new members always welcome. With our diversity of interests, pilots and aircraft, we can honestly say we are a well rounded Club! For new members just starting out in R/C flying, we have a formal training program known as the "Wings Program". This program is fully endorsed by MAAC and is based on the nationwide program which is also called the Wings Program. Flight training is provided free to all members and the club currently has buddy boxes for Futaba, Airtronics and JR radios. MMFC is located in Mississauga, Ontario Canada (Just west of Toronto). |
